Lake of the Clouds – Update on Draining and Repairs

The draining of Lake of the Clouds is ongoing due to a malfunctioning valve. The issue stems from a broken component that cannot be sourced from local suppliers and must instead be custom manufactured to ensure proper compatibility with the system. Once fabrication is complete, the part will be installed by qualified personnel. Staff are monitoring the status of the order weekly to ensure timely progress.

It has come to our attention that an individual attempted to interfere with the system by inserting a large log into the valve, presumably in an effort to slow the draining. The obstruction was promptly removed by staff, and fortunately no additional damage occurred. However, such actions present serious risks and could result in costly repairs for Shenandoah Farms. Residents are reminded not to attempt to manipulate or repair the system independently. The dam is subject to strict oversight and inspection by the Commonwealth of Virginia and is being managed exclusively by professional staff and inspectors.

In addition, the dry hydrant at Lake of the Clouds has been extended by Shenandoah Farms Sanitary District (SFSD) staff to ensure continued functionality at the current water levels, providing reliable access for the Fire Department should the need arise.

The safety and well-being of Shenandoah Farms residents remain our highest priority. We sincerely appreciate your patience and cooperation as this matter is resolved with the necessary diligence and professionalism.

The Project on Youngs Drive is in final planning stages. Engineers will be working with Property Owners for easements for drainage. Pending the outcome of final planning and gaining easements, decisions on construction schedule will be made and shared. This Project is a cost sharing project with the county and VDOT. The county is aware of the concerns by the Property Owners and is open to cancelling the project with VDOT and completing the project internally, with either pavement or tar and chip.
